1997/2000 Softail Custom - Owner asking $19,000.00 with 8,400 miles
- Chameleon color -
This bike was built from the ground up around a 1997
Harley Softail Custom, $45,000 and 5 years later…here it is! Specifically
designed to ride as good as it looks, it stands out from the crowd on it’s own!
I just went to look at the new Harleys and they want
$23,000 out the door for a Heritage Springer with tax and tags. What, then I'm
going to need new exhaust and aircleaner and ...But wait, my bike is yours for
less and you'll have the best of all parts you can find out there and it's still
a Harley. All parts are new and engine isn't even broken in so it's trouble
free, fast and great to look at. But then you could always get that new Harley
and wish..
Having no limitation for PAINT…the new sheetmetal was
actually a painters showcase for his work that he showed at his shop and online.
All of his “tricks” were done on these pieces along with the most interesting
paint as a base. Stretched tanks, fenders, center fill oil tank, spoiler, air
cleaner cover and dash panel were all painted with Dupont’s multi-tone
“Chameleon” paint. Some of the “tricks” done on both tanks and both fenders
include, air brushed hot spots, drop shadows, marbelizers and pearls. All
graphics were hand painted. A “Spyder style” LePera seat was sent out for
“Tribal design” stitching in 3 colors that compliments the paint scheme
perfectly. I also am including a Corbins "lady and shotgun" style seat in black
leather with flame design stitching in seat and matching seat pad. This is
useful way of having a sissy bar when you need one for the passengar you want to
keep ON THE BIKE!
I have tried, but there is no photo that could possibly
give this paint job justice, the bike changes color as you walk around it!
With the best available paint job finished…,we move onto
POWER. Did that route with new cam, pistons, heads, carb…wasn’t happy still. A
brand new 113” T.P.Engineering (superior and more expensive than S&S motors)
fully polished engine rated at 118hp @ 5,500 rpm’s and torque of 124 ftlbs. @
3,900 rpm’s – coupled to a Jim’s/Baker 6 speed tranny. A lot of reason to hold
on tight! We used a BDL clutch, a 3” open primary (with chrome billet cover) and
went with a chain drive to handle all that power with reliability. A power
thirsty motor requires the use of a Mikuni 45mm carb that fits that bill. The
exhaust valves are feeding Hooker Headers 2 into 1 tunable pipes with large
turnouts. These pipes are adjustable for sound and performance and are always
rated top of the list. I also am including a very loud and tough looking set of
Samson Street Sweeper.
I believe a show-bike should ride as good as it looks, so
next we move onto HANDLING. To hug the road and bank graceful curves, we put a
fat tire on the back, drop the rear 3” using progressive Suspension adjustable
shocks (in chrome of course), then drop the front end 1” using White Brothers
springs. This combination distributes the weight evenly front to rear.
More looks…the fun stuff! Performance Machine “Twister” 21
front wheel, 6 piston caliper, forward controls and matching rotor, of course.
Pro-1 chromed billet ball milled parts were used all over the bike including
fork legs, mirrors, front turn signal bar, etc., to dress it up without going
overboard, although the list of chrome accessories seems endless. The bike is
topped off with Carlini drag bars that don’t leave you reaching for the controls
and an AutoMeter Tach mounted right where it should be, to monitor those revs.
Camera Time! This bike has been in American Rider, June
2001 & October 2002 – Iron Works, July 2001 – Hot Bikes, November 2001 -Hot Rod
Bikes, October 2002 in the READERS RIDES section. And - Biker’s annual
supplement include with its August 2002 issue, a full page (Page 6). Appeared
last month in Motorcycle Cruiser also.
It has won 1st place trophies at Bikernet, Cyber Bike Show
– Best in class, July 2001 and at a local show back in October 1999. This bike
can also be seen on the internet at T.P.Engineering’s home page – Readers Rides,
and Force Aircleaner’s – Readers Rides. I told you it was a rider…. I have put
800 miles on my show bike. When I’m not riding or polishing it, it is stored in
a climate controlled garage under a cover and protected by a big, black dog.
Good Luck Bidding! * Total mileage is 8,300 - but engine, transmissions, clutch
and both tires have under 1,000 miles. Engine is not even broken in yet. Stock
1997 FXSTC are going for $15,000 around hear. This one has over $22,000 of
extra’s not including labor (all done at the same shop) This one needs nothing
and even comes with an additional Corbin leather seat with sissy bar built in
and a set of Samson 2 ¼” drag pipes for waking up the neighbors. GO AHEAD AND
BUY A NEW BIKE FOR LESS - BUT LET ME COME OVER AND PUT BIKES NEXT TO EACH OTHER
AND SEE WHICH ONE PEOPLE LOOK AT. WAIT, LOOKS AREN'T EVERYTHING, WANT TO RACE -
EVEN WITH THAT NEW V-ROD, YOU WON'T STAND A CHANCE. YOU CAN SPEND ALOT OF MONEY
ON YOUR ENGINE ALSO, BUT THE CUBIC INCHES ARE WHAT DO IT, AND MUCH MORE RELAIBLE
WAY ALSO. YOUR CHOICE THOUGH. You will be happy to own this bike! General Bike *
